Our goal at Vote.Run.Serve – Livonia is to not only share information as it happens but to keep the conversation going. We know everyone is busy so we hope that our recaps help residents feel connected to Livonia and our local government.
Here’s are some things to remember from the third quarter:
2023/2024 Budget – General notes: revenue is up, expenditures also up mostly due to unavoidable items including retirement contributions, election reform and Court House Fund balance. Representatives from LPS asked that the administrative tax fee be revisited. (9/20)
Administration Action– The Mayor vetoed Council Resolution 355-22. At the July 10th City Council meeting, Council amended resolution 355-22 to clearly state that there would be no fee for requests for information from the tax database. That motion was unanimously approved, the veto override did not have 5 votes. (7/24) Council approved a request for an issuance of Water Supply and Wastewater System Revenue Bonds, Series 2023, in an amount not to exceed $6,500,000 (9/18).
DTE Outages: Following multiple outages, the Mayor presented a recap of conversations with DTE representatives. Action items included critical infrastructure areas prioritized, tree trimming and automation. (8/9)
Public Hearings: 8/7 Public Hearing discussed the issues of demolishing two blighted residential homes, 9/13 Public Hearing discussed Montessori School/Community Center proposal by St. Mary
Referred to Committee – The following topics were discussed in committee: Issue of user fees be sent to the Committee of the Whole (7/24); Residential chickens and native plants referred to Senior Citizens, Families and Environment committee (8/21); matter of recreation programs for special needs residents referred to Senior Citizens, Families and Environment committee (9/6); matter of Senior Wellness Center sent to Committee of the Whole (9/6); development proposal for Sunset and Fargo was sent to the Committee of the Whole (9/18)
Closed Committee of the Whole Meetings will be held to discuss two pending court cases. Donald and Dina Croskey et al v City of Livonia and Barbara L. Thomas v City of Livonia (9/11)
Infrastructure Updates – Plante Moran Cresa will expand Phase 1 needs assessment to include Fire Stations 3,4,5, and 6 and move to Phase 2 which will provide a site plan for current Civic Center (7/17); pavilion approved for Ben Celani Play Area (9/18)
