On Monday, November 20th, City Council held a Committee of the Whole meeting for three items. Committee meetings are not recorded and the VRS team attended in person to learn more about these topics.

1. Subject matter of vacant and abandoned fee schedule
In response to vacant buildings in the city, the subject was sent to committee to discuss what options are available to ensure owners are taking care of their property. A motion was made that the city’s law and inspection departments offer recommendations on enforcement.
2. Subject matter of city user fees
Following July City Council meetings where the matter of user fees for the tax database was discussed, the matter of residential user fees was sent to committee. There are many user fees (no specific known number) and they originate from a variety of sources (the state, ordinances, resolutions, administrative, etc). It was recommended that an audit of fees be done to have a better understanding of what fees are out there and what needs Council approval.
3. Development proposal by Leo Soave Building Company
The development company owns property at Sunset (south of 8 Mile and east of Merriman) and it is seeking approval for a single-family home development. This proposal is amended from the original request, the original request was for 11 houses and met the minimum zoning width. The current proposal is for 10 homes and almost all of them are 80ft lots. It’s expected that this request will be included on the December 4th City Council agenda.
