Principals’ Week Resolution:

Stacy Jenkins (Administrator for District Communications) introduced, and Trustee Centers read a resolution to recognize Principals’ week. Ben Hillard (co-president of LEADs) spoke on behalf of the Principals.

District Update from the Superintendent:

Superintendent Oquist appealed highlights from across the District, including learning activities at several schools; celebrations for the 100th day of school; celebrations for Black History Month; new clubs at Churchill include Tea & Titles Book Club and Ski & Snowboard Club and Stevenson has an Arab-American Club; Winter Sports is wrapping up – Churchill Boys Swim Team took 1st place in the 200m Medley Relay at the KLAA conference meet, Josh Webert took 1st place in the 100m fly setting a new school record; Franklin Pom was State Runner up; Livonia Red Gymnastics Izzy Brumm was 1st place Division 2 on the Floor & Beam and Megan Ruffing was 1st place Division 1 on Floor and All-Around at Conference Finals; 5 Wrestlers from Franklin are headed to States; Bowlers from Churchill and Franklin will participate at States; Franklin Boys Basketball will play in Districts; Stevenson and Churchill Hockey will play in regionals; thank you to KLAA Officials; CAPA Performed “She Loves Me” last week; PTSA Founders Day Celebration; Gavin Bullock was named a National Merit Scholarship Award Finalist; Franklin Players presents “The Little Mermaid” on 3/16,17,18,&19; and Kindergarten Registration is open.

Audience Communications:

Emily Tchorz-Fielder (Program Supervisor at Greanmead) shared information on a field trip opportunity via a grant from the Livonia Historical Society. Jim McConnell from the Livonia Historical Society spoke about their activities to apply for Historical Markers from the State and Livonia’s upcoming 75th Birthday Celebration.

Approval to Purchase Furniture for LMC Renovations (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis (Assistant Superintendent of District Services) reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase and installation of furniture for Library Media Centers at Cleveland Elementary, Rosedale Elementary, Riley Upper Elementary, Frost Middle School, and Franklin High School from NBS Commercial Interiors.

Approval to Purchase Scoreboards for H.S. Baseball/Softball Fields:

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase and installation of athletic field improvements – scoreboards at the baseball and softball fields at Churchill, Franklin, and Stevenson. Installation will be complete in the summer. The General Fund will be used for this purchase.

Approval to Purchase Vehicle for LCTC:

Kevin Etue (Director of Secondary Programs & District Services) reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase of a vehicle for the LCTC Construction Trades program using funds from a 61c grant that Mr. Martin at the LCTC applied for.

Approval for Limited Out of District Schools of Choice for 2023-2024:

Bill Green (Director of Elementary Programs) reviewed the background, and the Board approved the recommendation to again participate in Limited Out of District Schools of Choice under Section 105 and 105c for the 2023-2024 school year. Openings to include no more than 185 seats in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Recommend Expulsion for Two Secondary Students:

The Board approved the Expulsions.

Personnel Matters:

The Board approved / recognized new Hires, Tenure, Resignations, Recalls, and Retirements.

Second Reading of Board Policies:

The Board approved the revisions to Board Bylaw BBABA – Duties of the President and adoption of Board Policy JI – Pledge of Allegiance.

Hearing from Board Members:

Trustee Centers announced that he was resigning his position as of 3/5. Fellow Board Members spoke to recognized the contributions for Trustee Centers.
