Special Meeting:

Administering the Oath of Office:

Lynda Scheel (Livonia Treasurer and former Board Trustee) administered the Oath of Office to Colleen Burton, Liz Jarvis, and Mark Johnson for the term they were re-elected to this past November.

Election of Officers:

The Board nominated and voted to approve Mark Johnson as President, Karen Bradford as Vice President, Tammy Bonifield as Secretary, and Alison Smith (Director of Finance) as Treasurer.

Regular Meeting:

District Update from the Superintendent:

Superintendent Oquist appealed highlights from across the District, including learning activities at several schools; a STEAM event at Kennedy hosted by the PTA and the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum; Kindergarten Registration for the class of 2036 starts on 2/1 (April 12th will be information night at each school); New Year activities at Niji-Iro including the Mochi Tsuki celebration and a visit from representatives of the Consulate General of Japan; Professional Development of District Leadership Team; Bond Update – the Board toured the updates at Cooper and Emerson prior to a Study Session Meeting earlier in January; Unified Basketball; Military Appreciation Night at Franklin; LPTSA Council Chili Cook-off; Livonia Human Relations Commission Essay Contest – Amy Mui (SHS), Emma Apap (FHS), and Laya Satish won; Franklin Girls Basketball honored Staff at Staff Appreciation Night; Stevenson Hockley Players volunteered at Clark Park to help kids learn to skate; Zach McCloud (SHS) finished 4th in the Wayne/ Oakland Legislative Debate League Novice Division; Derek Buchanan (SHS Hockey) was named KLAA Player of the Week; Coach Chiola (FHS Wrestling) was honored for his 400th win; Franklin Hockey was honored by City Council for helping with the recent charity game for Livonia Kids and Family; CAPA presents “She Loves Me” on 2/24, 25, & 26 and Franklin Players presents “The Little Mermaid” on 3/16,17,18,&19; and the LCTC Open House is on 2/8 at 7pm

School Board Recognition Month:

Stacy Jenkins (Administrator for District Communications) introduced, and Phil Francis (Assistant Superintendent of District Services) read a resolution approved by the Wayne-RESA School Board to honor the LPS Board Members. Each Board Member was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the MASB.

Audience Communications:

A former Bus Driver commented on concerns about behavior issues on school buses. Mrs. Carlini (LPS FIRST Coordinator) shared info on the expansion of Robotics to the Elementary School level as this year, Buchanan, Cleveland, Hoover, Niji-Iro, and Webster have started First Lego League Teams. A new website for all LPS Teams has been launched (https://www.livoniafirst.org/)

Approval to Purchase Furniture for LCTC & Robotics (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase and installation of furniture for LCTC and the new Robotics Center from several companies.

Approval of IT Bid Results for LCTC & Robotics (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved Digital Age Technology as the technology contractor for the renovation of LCTC and the New Robotics Center.

Approval of IT Bid Results for 2023 Renovations (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved AMcomm Telecommunications as the technology contractor for Phase 2 of 2021 Bond Projects.

Approval of Bid Results for Security Cameras (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase and installation of Security Cameras from Sentinel Technologies. These will be used on the interior and exterior in all building across the district and will expand the coverage area. In addition to Bond Funds, Funds from the State of Michigan Section 97 Grant will be used.

Approval of Bid Results for Early Childhood Center (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved several contractors for the construction of the ECC Project.

Approval of Bid Results for Franklin Tennis Courts (Sinking Fund):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved several contractors for the construction of the new Tennis Courts at Franklin (to be installed near where McKinley was).

Approval of TMP Contract Amendment (2021 Bond):

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved an amendment for additional Architecture services related to the LCTC/Robotic and ECC Projects.

Approval to Purchase Playground Equipment for Webster RISE Program:

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase of playground equipment. This purchase will be paid from the Capital Projects Fund.

Approval to Purchase Furniture for Stevenson Community Room:

Phil Francis reviewed the background, and the Board approved the purchase of furniture. This purchase will be paid from the Capital Projects Fund.

Recommend Expulsion for One Secondary Student:

The Board approved the Expulsion.

Personnel Matters:

The Board approved / recognized new Hires, Tenure, Resignations, and Retirements.

First Reading of Board Policy:

Revisions for Board Bylaw BBABA – Duties of the President and Board Policy JI – Pledge of Allegiance were read.

Second Reading of Board Policies:

The Board approved the revisions to Policy IDDA – Special Education Programs, IDDD – Programs for the Academically Talented, II – Systemwide Assessment Program, IIA – Testing Programs (Removal of Policy), IIC – Use and Dissemination of Assessment Results

Approval for Board Members to Participate in MASB’s Virtual Winter Institute and Take MASB Classes:

The Board approved the participation for these activities.
