There was a Special/Closed Meeting (Labor Negotiations Discussion) and Public Hearing (Proposed 2022-2023 Budget & Millage Rates) held just prior to this meeting.
District Update from the Superintendent:
Mrs. Oquist appealed highlights across the Districts, including High School Graduations for Churchill, Franklin, Stevenson, the Skills Center and the Transition Program; the tradition of Grads returning to their Elementary School for pics and clap outs; Pre-school graduation at CHS and Garfield; End of Year Fun – Field Days, Special Assemblies, Concerts, and Performances; Passport to Safety; Portraits on the Porch LPS Education Foundation; National Cyber Scholars from the LTC; Transportation Awards to celebrate years of service, attendance, and safety; SHS Softball Team won the Division district title; FHS Baseball won the District Championship; recognized the Track and Field athletes who competed at States; Learning in L-Town registration is open; Summer ELVS Program has had many students sign up and the PTSA is looking for additional volunteers; Kindergarten registration is open (class is 2035); and the LPS Social Emotional Hotline.
Audience Communications:
There was 1 public comment from a mother of an in-coming Kindergartener (next year) who wanted to make a positive comment – she publicly thanked those who helped her family to make the decision to select LPS after investigating many options and explained the reason why they selected LPS.
Appointment of Churchill Assistant Principal:
Anthony Abbate (Director of Personnel & District Services) introduced, and the Board approved the appointment of Jeffrey Burnside.
Appointment of Stevenson Assistant Principal:
Anthony Abbate introduced, and the Board approved the appointment of Christina Abojamra Kristen Quesada.
Approval of Collective Bargaining Agreement:
Jennifer Keatts (Director of Human Resources) reviewed the proposed CBA between LPS and SEALS (Supervisory Employees Association) and LEADS (Livonia Educational Administrators). The Board approved these 2 CBA’s.
Personnel Matters:
The Board approved Leave of Absence, Retirements, Notice of Discontinuance of Teaching Contracts, Teacher Recall Authorization, and Authorization to Accept Resignations.
Approval of 2022-2023 Lease Renewals:
The Board approved the proposed lease renewals for Himawari Preschool at Niji-Iro, Little Tots at Cass, Learning Tree at Marshall, and Garfield Cooperative Preschool at Marshal as part of the consent agenda.
Approval of Bid Results for the LCTC Renovation and Addition (2021 Bond):
The Board approved the bids for Livonia Career Technical Center Renovation and the addition for the new home of the Robotics program.
Adoption of 2021-2022 Final Budget Amendments:
The Board approved the budget Amendment that Alison Smith (Director of Finance) reviewed in detail during the Public Hearing that was held just prior to this meeting.
Approval of 2022-2023 Proposed Budget and Millage Rates:
The Board approved the budget and Millage Rate that Alison Smith reviewed in detail during the Public Hearing that was held just prior to this meeting.
Approval to Purchase Pear Deck Subscription:
The Board approved the purchase a Pear Deck subscription to support Google Classroom (it is a Google Extension Platform).
Approval to Purchase Textbooks:
The Board approved the purchase of textbooks for Math (grades 5-8), PreCalculus, Economics, AP U.S. History, Spanish 3. It was noted that the Wayne County Enhancement Millage supported the purchase of these textbooks.
Second Reading of Board Policies:
The Board approved the changes to the following…. BCAA – Annual Organizational Meeting; EA – Goals and Objectives; EBH – Leasing and Renting; ECA – Insurance Program; EDDA – Special Use of School Buses; KC – Board/Community Relations; KEAA – Community Activities for Students; KEC – Interviews with Students
Establishment of Date for First Regular Meeting of 2022-2023:
The Board approved to hold its first Regular Board meeting for the 2022-2023 school year on August 1, 2022.
Board Member Comments:
Dan Centers thanked and Congratulated Dan Willenborg on is retirement. Tammy Bonifield thanked Central Office for their support. Liz Jarvis thanked the volunteers for Portraits on the Porch fundraiser, especially Stacy Jenkins and Theresa O’Brien. Karen Bradford thanked the teachers and staff. Mark Johnson wished everyone a good summer. Collen Burton also thanked Central Office for their support and made comments about Cabinet Members.
There will be a Special Meeting Next week to approval some contracts.
