Planning Director Mark Taormina will join to give an update and answer questions. Kids welcome, Looney donuts and refreshments offered.

Tuesday, January 13th

• Coffee, Cocoa and Coloring @ Civic Center Library from 6:30pm to 8pm. Join us for an evening of mindfulness and relaxation as we color and enjoy coffee or cocoa. All supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own!
• “From Milton Berle to David Letterman: A History of TV Comedy” with Brian Rose @ Livonia Civic Center Library at 7:00pm – 8:30pm. From the earliest days of television, making people laugh was one the central goals of TV programmers. Successful radio formats like the sitcom and the comedy/variety show moved to television in the late 1940s, joined a few years later by the medium’s own innovation, the late night comedy talk show. For the next seven decades, these three formats dominated the airwaves, led by brilliant comedians such as Sid Caesar, Jackie Gleason, Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner, and Jerry Seinfeld. This presentation will survey the extraordinary landscape of American TV comedy, examining how comedy changed from the vaudeville shtick of Milton Berle and the slapstick artistry of Lucille Ball to the social satire of Saturday Night Live and the self-reflexive absurdities of David Letterman and The Simpsons.  This is a hybrid Zoom event, speaker will not be here in-person.  Register below to have the Zoom link emailed to you 1 hour prior to event start. • BYO Crafts Night @ Greenmead Historic Park from 6pm to 8pm. Bring your own supplies and enjoy a welcoming atmosphere with fellow crafters. Light refreshments will be provided, and the focus is on creativity, conversation, and enjoying the process rather than instruction. The cost is $5 per participant with advance registration or $7 for drop-in participation, cash only

• Digital Arts Workshop for Kids @ Civic Center Library at 11am. Students will create visually stunning works using digital art tools. Through mediums like fractal and pixel art, they’ll explore patterns, symmetry, and generative design, blending artistic expression with algorithmic thinking. Participants should bring a laptop or Chromebook. Pre-registration required.

• 4th Annual Legacy Livonia MLK Day Legacy Breakfast at 8am. Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and older
• Stories, Snacks, and Crafts!- Barnyard Buddies. 10:30- 12:00 PM. Designed for children ages 4–10. Tickets cost $10 for residents.  

Thursday, January 22nd

• Livonia 50+ Speed Dating @ Mama Mia from 6pm to 9pm. This evening includes: unlimited pizza, salad, bread sticks and pop! Cocktails and other items also available for purchase! Meet a variety of people with 5 minute speed dates! Space is limited

Friday, January 23rd

• Brushes and Baks @ Greenmead. Join the Toledo Zoo as we take flight on a guided evening bird walk through Greenmead Historical Park, then turn the experience into artwork in an instructor-led, owl-inspired painting session. Advance registration is required, $45/resident
• Livonia AIR Spaghetti Western Dinner/Dance @ Senior Wellness Center. Livonia AIR (Adaptive Inclusive Recreation) provides events and activities designed for individuals with special needs 15 and older. Caretakers are welcome as well! Dine, dance, play, and make memories during our winter dance 5pm to 7pm. It is $12 per resident, $15 per non-resident, and $5 per family member or caregiver.
• Jennifer Westwood and Ted Russell Kamp @ Trinity House Theatre. Show starts at 7:30. Tickets cost $25.00.

Saturday, January 24th

• Livonia PTSA Council hosts its 10th Chili Cook-off at Franklin High School from 11am to 2pm. Admission is $5 and includes refreshments and unlimited chili samples.
• Gone Country: Family Dances @ Senior Wellness Center. $12 per resident, pre-registration required. Daddy Daughter Dance 11am and 5pm. Someone Special Dance at 2pm.

• Dodworth Saxhorn Band @ Schoolcraft College. America’s Premier 19th Century Brass Band. Noon. Free admission
• Wycinanki  –  Valentines with a Traditional Twist @ Livonia Civic Center Library. Local folklorist, Jan Mordenski will teach you Wycinanki, the art of creating intricately cut paper designs.  6:00pm – 8:00pm in Meeting Room A & B.
• Family Board Games @ Civic Center Library from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Come take advantage of the library’s amazing board game collection, learn a new game, and connect with your family and the community at our Family Board Game events. Staff will be on hand to explain the rules and guide the fun, and all games will be available for checkout after the event. Ages 8+. No registration required.
