On Monday, December 9th, City Council held a Public Hearing. Both items will be taken up again during the City Council’s regular meeting on January 15th at 7pm.
Here is the agenda packet: https://livoniami.portal.civicclerk.com/…/agenda/3128
The first item was a rezone request by Skilken Gold for a Sheetz (gas station, drive-thru restaurant, convenience store) at the southeast corner of Newburgh and 8 Mile from a C-1 to C-2. This issue attracted many residents of Livonia and Farmington Hills to the meeting. 24 spoke against the proposed rezone and 3 spoke in support. The item moves forward with approving, denying and Committee of the Whole motions.
The second item was a request to approve a Brownfield Plan for a 100 townhome development at 7 Mile and Victor Parkway. The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority recommended approving a plan that would allow for a reimbursement to the developer for eligible activities not to exceed $1,985,199 for a 10 year period and it moves forward with an approving motion from Council.
Livonia currently has 5 active Brownfield projects, two will be sunsetting. This project is eligible because the land for the project has soil disruption from when 275 was being worked on and the cost to remediate is prohibitive.
