On Wednesday, September 11th, City Council held a Capital Outlay and Infrastructure Committee meeting to discuss the issue of solid waste and recycling collection.
A meeting on this topic was previously held on August 12th, find the summary here: https://voterunservelivonia.com/…/august-12th-2024…/
Following the August meeting, City Council moved forward with an approving motion for a contract with Priority Waste that included a transition to 95 gallon carts and maintained unlimited bulk collection.
Prior to the regular August 26th City Council meeting, it was shared that the proposed contract would be carts plus 1 bulk item and the item was removed from the agenda for further discussion.
At the September 11th committee meeting the administration provided an update that after further negotiations, a new agreement of carts plus 5 bulk items was being offered at the same contract amount. Given the change, the administration recommended Priority Waste also store and maintain inventory of the extra carts the City intends to purchase to alleviate manpower burden of this new task from DPW. Since there is one alternative company capable of providing this service to Livonia, Council also recommended the administration reach out to Waste Management to see if they would be interested in providing a bid for the contract.
This item remains in committee. The current solid waste and recycling contract ends at the end of November. This is a time sensitive matter that will be brought up again soon.
