Emergency Director Brian Kahn attended the meeting with residents to review the siren procedure the city has to notify residents of when a storm is nearby. The city relies on advance warnings given by the National Weather Service, who are subject matter experts in detecting natural disasters. When the NWS provides an extreme weather condition, the city will use sirens to alert citizens to seek shelter. Aside from NWS, the city will use the sirens when 55-mile an hour winds are detected or when a tornado is spotted.
