May 6, 2024 – City Council Meeting

Transparency, accountability, and community engagement are essential in a democracy. Local government is important and City Council meetings provide insight into what’s happening in your community. Here is a summary of the May 6, 2024 Regular + Study Meeting of Livonia City Council.

Council recognized former Mayor Jack Engebretson for 40 years of service to the City of Livonia.

The following were passed unanimously:

▪️ Minutes and consent agenda

▪️ Lot split request at 19283 Newburgh Road

The lot split at 19200 Merriman Ct was denied and the lot split request at 19831 Purlingbrook Road was tabled because the petitioner was not present.

There was a first read for an ordinance limiting the number of gas stations at intersections to two.

Items put on the consent agenda:

▪️ Block party

▪️ Requests related to the 74 Spree to take place June 25th – 30th; new this year is digital tickets, more music and activities.

▪️ Pay increase for seasonal workers from $15 to $17 per hour

▪️ Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual plan was approved for the Livonia Housing Commission

▪️ Contract for weed cutting and property maintenance services for Inspection Department (to be used on private property and services will be paid back to the city by property owners).

▪️ New playground at the Recreation Center & repaving of outdoor hockey rink

▪️ Fee changes at Recreation Center: Addition of corporate rate (same as business rate), change in membership to two month minimum, change in guest policy (can bring two guests at the resident visit rate) and memberships can be placed ‘on-hold’

▪️ Purchase request by DPW for replacement truck

▪️ Stormwater maintenance agreement request by engineering department
