On Monday, February 26th, City Council held a Committee of the Whole meeting for multiple items. Reminder, committee meetings are not recorded but open to the public for those who want to attend.

Matter of new Senior Center:

Seven firms were considered for the construction manager contract for the new Senior Center. Of the seven proposals, three companies went through an interview process and PCI Dailey received the highest score with lowest bid. It’s recommended that Council approve the bid from PCI Dailey so that when the land for the new Senior Center is acquired by the City from Livonia Public Schools, an official agreement can be made.

PCI Dailey will evaluate the current architectural design for feasibility and work with city officials and stakeholders to develop a final plan – this plan includes the new Senior Center and updates to the Recreation Center.

Per the RFP, the desired timeline for the project is to have a final plan by April, award sub contract bids in May and start construction in June 2024 for a final project completion in June 2025. Following Council approval, more information will be shared about the project.

Council moved an approving motion forward.

Matter of Government Affairs Director:

This position has been vacant since November 2022 and was removed from the budget. Current vacancies in two Clerk Typist and Purchasing Manager positions have provided in-budget funds for this position. The administration proposes hiring a single Clerk Typist to perform duties for Council, ZBA, and Planning and using the funds from the other two positions for a new Government Affairs Director.

This matter moved forward with three options for Wednesday’s Council meeting: an approving, an approving with wage adjustment for the position to match that of Deputy Clerk/Treasurer, and it can also remain in committee if neither of those motions pass.
