February Happenings

A new month full of events that show why we love Livonia and if you need extra reasons to love winter – check out open skating at Eddie Edgar, go sledding at Fox Creek Golf Course, grab packzis at a local bakery (Fat Tuesday is February 13th) and then taste test at weekly Friday Fish Fries. Don’t forget to vote in the Presidential Primary by Tuesday, February 27th.

  • Chocolate 101 @ Greenmead Historical Park. Join us on a delectable adventure with our chocolate tasting class, featuring an enhanced exploration of chocolates from around the world. This program will be presented by Dough Joe’s. This event is sold out.

  • The Snow Ball @ Greenmead Historical Park at 1pm.  Join us for a live sing-along, photo opportunity, one-on-one experience with Anna and Elsa, make your own crown station, winter-themed snacks, and other fun crafts. This program is recommended for ages 4-10. Tickets are $25 per child.
  • Cat Cafe for Teens @ Civic Center Library from 2pm to 4pm – Teens in grades 8-12. Join us for a Cat Café featuring adorable cats from the Michigan Humane Society! Enjoy a cup of tea, cocoa, or coffee while you visit.
  • Detroit Style Pizza: A Doughtown History @ Civic Center Library from 2pm to 3:30pm – This presentation tells the past, present and future of this unique pizza style that has grown internationally over the past decade.
  • Kids & Comics @ Civic Center Library from 2pm to 3pm – Are you in grades 3 or 4? Do you love graphic novels? Then join us for the Kids & Comics book club! We’ll talk about the book, do something crafty related to the book, have some snacks, and just hang out!

Sunday, February 11th

  • Livonia AIR Big Game Party @ Kirksey Recreation Center from 1pm to 3pm. Celebrate the two teams that made it to the Championship. Learn about the finalists, football-themed games and snacks, and more! The cost per member is $5, residents are $10, and non-residents cost $15. Livonia AIR (Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation) Events and activities are designed for individuals with special needs. All abilities are welcome.
  • The Great Migration @ Civic Center Library from 2pm to 3:30pm – Actor Madelyn presents the movement of African-Americans from the South to Detroit. Refreshments served afterwards in the Michigan Room.

  • Seed Swap/Exchange @ Civic Center Library at 6:30pm. Participants can take a packet of seed for each seed packet they donate at the swap. For participants who do not bring seed to donate, a $1.00 cash donation may be made for each seed packet taken. Seed donated for the seed swap must be in clearly labeled envelopes (no jars or plastic please) with donor’s name and the type and variety of the seeds.
  • VFW Post 3941 hosts weekly Euchre Tournament from 7pm to 10pm

  • Uniquely Unicorn Stuff-a-Pet @ Kirksey Recreation Center from 1pm to 3pm. Let us celebrate the unicorn inside everyone by listening to the story, “I Am Me: A Book of Authenticity” by Susan Verde and enjoy themed arts, crafts, and games. The cost per resident is $22, residents are $25. for ages 2-10.
  • Knights Hall Comic and Toy Show from 10am to 4pm. Stop by a day of buying, selling and trading comics and toys. Admission is just $3 at the door. Children under 12 are FREE

  • Mind Games Part 1: The Science of Perception Deception @ Civic Center Library from 7pm to 8pm. Join us as William Pack, magician, storyteller and author, presents Mind Games Part 1: The Science of Perception Deception.
  • Monday, February 26th
  • Voting Rights Town Hall @ Sandburg Library from 5:30pm to 7pm. A town hall event with Livonia State Representatives Laurie Pohutsky and Matt Koleszar to discuss the legislation that was passed in 2023 to implement Proposition 22-2 and other legislation that expanded access to voting in Michigan. With those laws going into effect this year, we’ll let everyone know who they may impact the voting process.

  • Rec Center Readers Book Club @ Kirksey Recreation Center at 7pm Guess what your fellow peers are reading this month for the Recreation Center Book Club! They are reading “The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett”. You can borrow this book from Livonia Public Libraries. There is a $3 fee for residents and $5 for non-residents.
