Michigan Public Service Commission (abbreviated as MPSC) approved DTE’s electricity rate increase (case U-21297). The rate increase will take effect on December 15, meaning residential customers will see the increased rates in starting in their 2024 bills. The typical DTE residential customer will see an increase of 6.38% in their monthly bill.
MPSC approval comes 11 months after DTE submitted their proposed rate increase, which would have raised residential rates by 14%.
MPSC noted the previously ordered third party audit of all equipment and operations managed by DTE Energy and Consumer’s Energy, Livonia’s natural gas provider, is due in the late summer of 2024. These expenses will be used in future rate cases to “ensure funds approved for (reliability enhancements) are spent on those programs, or else they will be refunded to customers.”
