Monday, November 27th – Committee of the Whole

On Monday, November 27th, City Council held a Committee of the Whole meeting for a rezoning request by  Basilica of St. Mary to rezone a portion of its property from P-L (Public Lands) to N2 (Neighborhood) with the intent to develop it into a Montessori School/Community Center (there is a second portion of land that is P-L and owned by St. Mary but not part of this discussion). Committee meetings are not recorded and the VRS team attended in person to learn more about these topics.

This is an on-going public interest topic, here are links to previous coverage.

January 24th Planning Commission: https://voterunservelivonia.com/2023/01/24/planning-commission-1-24-23-partial-summary/

September 13th Public Hearing:

Much of the conversation during the meeting was similar to previous discussion, except, a representative from St. Mary’s said that EGLE inspected the area and suggested it would not be subjected to permitting requirements due to distance from the creek. As this was a noted concern by Councilmembers in previous discussions, this information led to an approving motion by Council for the next meeting – a denying motion was also put forward.

An item of note, on November 21st, residents from the neighborhood hosted Jack Cotrone from EGLE to present on Preserving and Restoring Water Quality at Tarabusi Creek Watershed at the Civic Center Library. A formal summary was not posted but VRS was present at the meeting and it was stated at that meeting that the water quality in that area of the creek is fair/poor.

This matter will be discussed again at the next City Council regular meeting on Monday, December 4th at 7pm. You can find that agenda here: https://livoniami.portal.civicclerk.com/event/357
