On Wednesday, November 15th, City Council held a Committee of the Whole for two business requests. Committee meetings are not recorded and the VRS team attended in person to learn more about this topic.

The Livonia Athletic District (LAD) is requesting a Class C liquor license to serve beer and alcohol in three designated indoor locations: lobby, pickleball court and future golf simulator area (expected opening is May 2024). Long term plans include an outdoor biergarten but that is not part of this proposal. There was concern by some members of council that the LAD lacks sufficient staffing levels to effectively execute the plan. It was proposed that the liquor license be approved for the golf simulator area first and expanded in the future.

ServiceMaster proposes to convert the existing 8-story building off Middlebelt north of 7 Mile into a mixed use storage facility with indoor and outdoor storage. The long-term plan for the property includes the construction of 5 new single family homes along Vassar Avenue. This project has the support of residents in the area but there is concern by some members of council that this development does not fit the objectives Livonia Vision21 set for the area.

Both of these items will be voted on at the next City Council Regular meeting on December 4th. Both move forward with a motion to approve and deny.
