Transparency, accountability and community engagement are essential in a democracy. Local government is important and City Council meetings provide insight into what’s happening in your community. Here is a summary of the August 9th, 2023 Regular + Study Meeting of Livonia City Council.

Mayor Brosnan and a representative from DTE Energy presented a recap of their meeting this week.
- Unreliable residential areas will be given specific attention
- Critical infrastructure areas need to be prioritized, specifically the️ Kirksey Recreation Center as it’s the city’s emergency center
- Livonia will be part of pilot programs designed to address outages, including burying lines
- 70% of the trees have been trimmed
- 30% – 40% of the grid is expected to be rebuilt in coming years due to electrification
- Automation is also expected to limit outage impact, 10k circuits will be added in Livonia

- Award of bid for a water main repair at 96 that will be done in partnership with MDOT

The following were approved for the consent agenda:
- Block parties
- Purchase requests by LFD + DPW
- Award of bid for architectural services for Civic Center Library permanent chillers
- Award of bid for architectural services for generators at 3 Fire Stations and DPW maintenance facility
- Request to increase tree trimming contract by $100k because the budgeted $350k is nearly spent due to number of storms this year
- Request to enter partnership with GM to underwrite costs of installing charging stations by Charge EV. 4 ports would be installed at the Kirksey Recreation Center, Fox Creek/Bicentennial Park, and Civic Center Library, the City will receive a portion of the revenue.
Proposed Tree Ordinance presented to promote and protect an urban forest in Livonia will be put forward in the next general meeting.
