On Monday, August 7th, City Council held a public hearing on multiple topics. Public hearings are not recorded and the VRS team attended in person to learn more about this topic. Each of the four items will be further discussed at the August 21st City Council meeting.
The first two agenda items were residential homes recommended for demolition (37739 Seven Mile Rd and 11033 Berwick). Both properties are vacant, the City has attempted to contact property owners for several years and neighbors spoke in support of the recommendation. City Council motioned to approve demolition.
Note: The City will pay for the demolition but bill the property owners who will have 30 days to pay or else a lein will be put on their property. Property owners will retain ownership of the land and can decide to keep it or sell.
The second item regarded a rezone request by a resident to have their property changed from N2 (Neighborhood) to RUF (Rural Urban Farm) in order to keep chickens on their property. A motion was put forward to approve, deny or send to Committee of the Whole – this provides Council with options at the August 21st meeting. There were neighbors who supported this and a neighbor who did not.
Colossal Development Group requested that the commercial properties at 20511, 20513 and 20515 Angling at 8 Mile, be rezoned from C-1 (local business) to N1 (Neighborhood) to allow the construction of 4 new homes. City Council motioned to approve.
The next City Council meeting is this Wednesday, August 9th at 7pm. It is open to the public and streamed on the City’s YouTube channel – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMZd3Sq1V7s
