Human Relations Commission

Livonia has 26 commissions on topics ranging from sustainability to the economic development of Plymouth Road. VRS spotlights the activities and opportunities for engagement with each of these commissions. Today we’re looking at the Human Relations Commission.

The Human Relations Commission is committed to bringing awareness to issues that impact our community and celebrating diversity.

This fall, the commission will host an Ethnic Heritage Fair at the Kirksey Recreation Center and it is working on a program to help make access to mental health resources easier.

This Saturday, June 17th, the Human Relations Commission will co-host a Pride Celebration and Resource Fair with the Livonia Democratic Club as part of its efforts to build relationships with local groups and organizations. The Pride Celebration and Resource Fair is being held in the City Hall parking lot area from 11am to 1pm and all are welcome. Donations of personal items for the Ruth Ellis Center are appreciated.

The Human Relations Commission has 6 members (Richard Glover, Denise Collins-Robison, Becky Drzewicki, Thomas Emerick, Haitham Fakhouri, and Madison Ling) appointed by the Mayor and meets the third Tuesday of every month on the 4th floor of City Hall (next meeting June 20) from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The public can attend these meetings.
